Assessment Task: Planning a Trip to BETT in London
Scenario
You and your classmates have been given the opportunity to attend the BETT Exhibition in London (ExCeL London). Your task is to plan the journey from your college to the event, making sure you organise travel, time, and expenses. You will also need to budget for meals and snacks during the trip.
Your Task

Route Planning
Use online travel applications to map out your route. Examples include:-
TfL Go (Transport for London) – live bus, tube and train updates

National Rail Enquiries – train times, fares and routes

Trainline – book and check train journeys and fares

Google Maps – plan multi-step routes (walking, bus, tube, train)

Citymapper – journey planner showing fastest and cheapest routes

You must include start and end times, travel methods, and estimated duration of each leg of the journey.

Research and calculate the cost of travel (bus fare, train ticket, Oyster card/contactless).

Estimate lunch and snack costs (e.g. supermarket meal deals, drinks, snacks).

Present a total daily budget.

Worked Example: Croydon College to BETT (ExCeL London)
Route (using Google Maps + TfL Go + Citymapper):

Jubilee Line: London Bridge → Canning Town (15 mins).

DLR: Canning Town → Custom House (6 mins).
